The Role

As a Business Requirements Analyst you will help define and deliver digital solutions for the GSTS product suite. You will serve as a facilitator between the client and the Development team in understanding the business needs. In partnership with Product Managers, Project Managers, the Development team, and stakeholders you will lead the eliciting, analyzing, validating, and managing of requirements, business processes and high-level solution designs.

As part of developing the client requirements, the Business Requirements Analyst will consolidate requirements to create user stories based on the prioritized features. In conjunction with the Product Manager and the Development team, you will workshop multiple development solutions for each feature, taking into account the clients’ priorities across the market spectrum, technical development and scalability, integration, as well as the time and resources required to successfully implement and deploy.

While the primary role of an Business Requirements Analyst is collecting, analyzing and modeling client requirements. It’s about translating the business requirements into a set of user stories and accompanying design mockups, so that the Development team can design and code the system better and helping to validate the software before handing over to the client.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Products, and working closely with the Product Managers, Project Managers, and the Development team:

  • Define the initial requirements of the project, the scope of the project, and also identify automation areas of the project.
  • Work in continuous delivery mode, analyzing and delivering features iteratively.
  • Hold discussions with stakeholders to understand their requirements and how this aligns with the vision of the GSTS product suite.
  • Elicit requirements from the first iteration to the release phase of the project.
  • Translate requirements into user stories and communicate to the team members to make them understand the expectations of the project.
  • Create, refine, and manage user stories and associated deliverables such as process flows and test cases to meet development and stakeholder needs.
  • Design high-fidelity mock-ups and prototypes to support iterative feature development.
  • Consistently demonstrate agile processes and principles for effective delivery.
  • Work with the Product Managers on the prioritization of the product backlog of user stories.
  • Help the Product Managers groom the product backlog so that it does not become a burden on the team. Business Analysts achieve this by considering purpose, organizing, and prioritizing user stories, and splitting epics into user stories.
  • Work with the Product Managers and Quality Assurance team on defining acceptance criteria sufficiently for testing.
  • Work with the Product Manager and Project Managers to confirm the delivered solution is in fulfillment of the stated requirements.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Business Analyst working on technology-focused projects
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Business Analyst in an agile project-based environment. Proficient with user stories, Scrum, retrospectives, team planning and other related agile techniques
  • University degree related to software development or in a relevant technical field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of software development and user-centric digital product design and development
  • Demonstrated ability to see a digital product through its full life cycle
  • Experience managing a project that has a mix of internal team leads and development resources
  • Strong leadership and business analyst skills (agile/scrum)
  • Demonstrated ability to help the product manager establish user stories from the requirement models created during business analysis
  • Great communicator with the ability to convey technical elements to various stakeholders
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relations with staff and colleagues
  • Takes initiative and thinks creatively and smartly
  • Willing to wear other hats from time to time

Additional Skills an Asset

  • Working experience with version control (GitLab, Git, etc.)
  • Experience within the maritime industry
  • Experience with GIS
  • Experience with government projects
  • Experience with AI and large datasetS
  • Experience with UI/UX and mock-up tools
